Football: Much to the delight of OSU fans everywhere, Head Coach Jim Tressel is going to be around for a while. Director of Athletics Gene Smith announced today that Tressel has been given a two year extension to his contract, through the 2014 football season.

"We wanted to reward Jim for his exemplary work with our football program and lock him in as our coach for an additional two years," Smith said.

Tressel's compensation package will not increase over the final two years of the deal, Smith said.

"Jim has never once come to me about compensation," Smith said. "Jim has indicated to me he is satisfied with his salary. He is aware of the financial situation we all face in athletics and I am thankful for his service and loyalty to the goals of the department."

Men's Basketball: Ohio State turned it on in the second half to route Minnesota by a final of 90 - 61 and capture the Big Ten Tournament Championship.

Four Buckeye scored in double figures led by Evan Turner's 31. Turner also added 12 rebounds and 6 assists. William Buford scored 13, David Lighty 20 and Jon Diebler 19 in the Buckeye win.

Turner was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Lighty and Buford were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Men's Basketball:

All of it compelled Matta to call a timeout early in the second half of the Illinois game where he laid into his players like a drill sergeant. At one point his face was so red his players had to wonder if their coach was about to pop a blood vessel. --- Brandon Castel's description of Thad Matta's reaction to how his team played at times today.

Buckeyes Advance to Big Ten Tournament Final!!!

OSU BasketballThe Buckeyes have advanced to the Big Ten tournament final with a hard-fought double-overtime 88-81 win over a determined Illinois team. Evan Turner scored a game-high 31 points and William Buford added 22.

The Buckeyes will meet the winner of today's Purdue vs. Minnesota game in the tournament championship game tomorrow.

Turner Named League's Best!!!

Matta Named Coach of the Year by the Media!!!

Men's Basketball: It's official. OSU's Evan Turner is the Big Ten's best.

Turner, a junior, was announced by the league tonight as the Big Ten Player of the Year by both the media and the league coaches. He was a unanimous choice on the media team.

Turner led the Big Ten in scoring average at 19.5 points per game, rebounding at 9.4 per game, was sixth in the league in shooting percentage at 53.8 percent from the field, second in assists at 5.8 per game, and second in steals at 1.8 per game. Turner was named the Big Ten Player of the Week seven times this season to set all-time records for the number of times that award has been won by an individual in a season and in a career.

Turner was a unanimous first team All-Big Ten selection by both the coaches and the media. He was joined on the Big Ten team by David Lighty who was named to the third team by the media and William Buford who was named to the third team by both the coaches and the media.

OSU Head Coach Thad Matta was named the league's Coach of the year by the media, while Purdue's Matt Painter was named Coach of the Year by the coaches.

OSU center Dallas Lauderdale was named to the All-Defensive team by the coaches. Lauderdale led the league with 65 blocks, an average of 2.2 per game.

Lighty and Jon Diebler earned honorable mention with the coaches while Diebler also earned honorable mention with the media.

Turner is scheduled for a teleconference later tonight. Brandon Castel will have a further update after that teleconference.

Women's Basketball: Jantel Lavender hit two free throws with under two seconds to play to give the Buckeyes a dramatic come from behind win over Iowa by a final score of 66-64. The win allowed OSU to claim the Big Ten Tournament championship.

The Buckeyes trailed by 16 in the second half but dominated in the paint down the stretch to claim the victory and take home the trophy. Lavender finished with a season-high 35 points.

Women's Basketball: Samantha Prahalis scored 29 points and Jantel Lavender added 27 to enable OSU to defeat Wisconsin by final of 82-73 in the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament. OSU converted on 34 of 38 free throws in securing the win. The Buckeyes will face Iowa in the championship game tomorrow.

Football: If you are the kind of person who likes to plan ahead, here's an item for you.

The department of athletics has announced that the Buckeyes will open the 2014 season on the road against Navy on Labor Day weekend. The game will be played at M&T Bank Stadium, home of the Baltimore Ravens. M&T Stadium has a capacity of 71,000. Navy's home stadium at the Naval Academy in Annapolis seats 37,000.

According to Chet Gladchuk, Navy’s Director of Athletics, ticket demand was the driving force in the decision to relocate the game to Baltimore. Navy has played several games at M&T Bank Stadium including games against Army, Notre Dame and Maryland. All of those games have been sellouts.

Bridgethe-Ozone Announcement: As per our announcement yesterday, our fundraiser is rapidly coming to a close. We have not yet updated the Expansion Bridge Honor Roll, but just over 2,000 dollars came in yesterday, pushing us slightly past our original goal of 30,000 dollars.

As announced yesterday, we have amended our goal upward by around 1,200 dollars to account for unexpected auto repairs. We are now roughly 900 dollars short of that goal. When we reach it, the fund raiser and Honor Roll will be closed.

Bridgethe-Ozone Announcement: This is the final call for participation in the Expansion Bridge Fundraiser.

Our current total is 28,240 dollars, 1,760 dollars short of our goal of 30,000 dollars.

We'd like to get that remaining total by a week from today. We will close the fundraiser on that date or whenever we reach our amended goal. We amending it as of today to reflect an unexpected expense of just under 1,200 dollars in auto repairs that we incurred this month.

The bottom line is that the fund raiser will end next Monday or when we raise an additional 2,960 dollars, whichever comes first.

If you have already given, thank you. We appreciate it. If you haven't, we want you to understand that it's important to get your name on the list. Here's why.

As always, all of our content will remain free to everyone, but as the next 10 months unfold we will be doing some things that will only be available to Honor Roll members. We'll be running contests and making special offers throughout the year, and eligibility for those activities will be restricted to honor roll members.

The Purdue Boilermakers came into the .Schottenstein Center with the memory of defeating the Buckeyes in West Lafayette earlier this season. OSU quickly made that a distant memory as they downed the visitors by 30 points, 75-45, and in the process secured a record-setting sixth-straight Big Ten championship.
