Buckeyes Add Boston College to 2020-21 Schedules
Ohio State also announces a date change in UNC series
By Brandon Castel
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State has added another BCS conference opponent to the schedule, this time for the 2020-21 seasons.
It was only recently the Buckeyes announced their agreement with the University of Oregon for a home-and-home series during those two football seasons, and now Ohio State has made plans for a similar series with Boston College for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
“Boston College is a fine program from an outstanding conference (Atlantic Coast Conference),” Ohio State director of athletics Gene Smith said in a statement Wednesday evening.
“This gives Ohio State fans a chance to watch their Buckeyes in back-to-back games against Pacific 12 and ACC schools.”
The Ohio State/Boston College games are scheduled to be played Sept. 19, 2020 at Ohio Stadium in Columbus and Sept. 18, 2021 at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Mass., where the private Jesuit university is located.
Each game between the Buckeyes and Eagles will follow an Ohio State game against the Oregon Ducks.
“This will be a great opportunity for our team to measure itself against one of the premier programs in college football,” Boston College athletic director Brad Bates said Wednesday afternoon.
“We will have the opportunity to showcase the rich history and tradition of Boston College football in a great matchup between ACC and Big Ten schools.”
The Buckeyes have won all three previous meetings with Boston College: 34-29 in 1989 at Ohio Stadium; 31-10 in 1990 at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill; and 38-6 in Kickoff Classic XIII in 1995 at East Rutherford, N.J.
There is a scheduling change in the previously announced series with the University of North Carolina: the Sept. 5, 2015 game at Ohio Stadium has been moved to Sept. 22, 2018 at Ohio Stadium. No change on the Sept. 23, 2017 game that will be played in Chapel Hill, N.C.
“We worked in collaboration with UNC on moving the initial game in this series,” Gene Smith said in a statement.
“They were in need of a scheduling change and we were in a position where we could help. This new date works well with what we are doing in regard to strengthening our non-conference games from 2018 and beyond.”
Ohio State’s 2018 non-conference schedule now includes consecutive games against Big East foe Cincinnati (Sept. 8), at Big 12 member TCU (Sept. 15) and the Atlantic Coast Conference’s North Carolina (Sept. 22).
