The Buckeyes Come Away Empty Handed at Minnesota
By Paula C. Weston

Like every WCHA team that No. 1 Minnesota has faced this season, the Buckeyes came up empty against the Golden Gophers, suffering a pair of road losses - 10-0 and 5-1 - in Ridder Arena last weekend.

"They come in fast and hard with good forchecking," said OSU head coach Jackie Barto. "You can't hesitate against this team."

Golden Gopher Kelly Stephens had six goals in the series and Krissy Wendell had a hat trick in the shutout. Minnesota goaltender Jody Horak made 17 saves in her fourth shutout of the season and stopped 15 in the 5-1 decision.

Erika Vanderveer stopped 39 in the 10-0 loss and Melissa Glaser made 44 saves in the second contest as the Golden Gophers outshot the Buckeyes 98-33 in the two-game set.

Jeni Creary had OSU's only goal of the weekend, a power-play tally at 18:32 in the second period Sunday, when the Buckeyes were trailing 3-0.

Minnesota went 7-for-12 on the power play for the weekend, OSU 1-for-14.

With the win, the Golden Gophers improve to 10-0-0 (10-0-0 WCHA).

The Buckeyes (5-4-0, 5-4-0 WCHA) return to action against Northeastern at the OSU Ice Rink with a pair of afternoon games Nov. 13-14. The puck drops for those contests Saturday and Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
