Sources have indicated that Sullinger will reveal his plans to enter his name into the 2012 NBA Draft during a 2:15 p.m. ET press conference at Value City Arena, the place he has called home for the past two seasons.
Much like former No. 2 overall pick Evan Turner, Sullinger will have OSU head coach Thad Matta by his side when he makes his announcement today—just four days after the Buckeyes’ heartbreaking 64-62 loss to Kansas in the Final Four.
Sullinger struggled against the Jayhawks, posting his worst shooting percentage of the year, but the first-team All-American is still being projected as a potential top-10 pick in the June draft.
The big man in the middle for Ohio State averaged 17.5 points and 9.2 rebounds as a sophomore, which were similar to the numbers—17.2 points and 10.2 rebounds—he posted as a freshman.
Sullinger was named the National Freshman of the Year last season, but turned down a chance to be a top-10 pick in last year’s draft for another run at a national championship.
The Buckeyes came up two wins short of accomplishing that goal this season, but Sullinger will leave Ohio State as the 11th best rebounder in school history. His 717 rebounds are just three boards behind John Havlicek for No. 10 on the school’s all-time list.
He will also leave Columbus, his hometown, as No. 28 on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,282 points. He is listed as the No. 9 pick in NBADraft.net’s 2012 mock draft and No. 6 according to DraftExpress.com.
ESPN’s Chad Ford has Sullinger listed as his No. 11 draft prospect in the country.
We will have full coverage of Sullinger’s press conference this afternoon.
