Buckeyes try to Chomp Gators for 2013 4-Star LB
By Michael Chung
Daniel McMillian is going to give the Buckeyes a chance.
Shortly after former WR coach Aubrey Hill resigned from the University of Florida, a few recruits de-committed. One person who reportedly re-opened his recruitment was McMillian, a top linebacker prospect in the class of 2013.
It appears Hill’s resignation had no real influence on McMillian’s decision to consider visiting other schools, including Ohio State and Alabama. In fact, he may not have a whole lot of interest in going anywhere but Florida.
The 6-2, 220-pound linebacker out of Jacksonville, Fla. has publicly reaffirmed that his commitment to the Gators is still solid, but the 4-star plans to take a few official visits this fall. As of now, the only official visit he has mentioned is to Ohio State, where he has been in contact with former Florida coach Urban Meyer, as well as OSU defensive coordinator Luke Fickell.
With the de-commitments of Alex Anzalone and Lewis Neal, the 2013 recruiting class is still relatively void at the linebacker position. Mike Mitchell has shown interest but Urban and company would love for this Florida middle linebacker to be the first real LB prospect in the 2013 class.
Do the Buckeyes have a chance to land this Rivals 100 prospect? He recently took some time to answer questions from the-Ozone.
Ozone: You committed to Florida but seemed to open your commitment after Aubrey Hill resigned, what really lead you to that decision?
McMillian: Was Aubrey Hill the wide receiver coach? His resignation had no affect on me. I really cannot say I have reopened recruiting. I remain 100-percent committed to the Gators, but I still have official visits so why not use them?
Ozone: What does the Florida staff think of you taking official visits elsewhere?
McMillian: They are not worried. They tell me go and enjoy myself … just not too much.
Ozone: How did you decide to make Ohio State one of your official visits?
McMillian: They were coming at me hard. Once I made my commitment, a lot of schools stopped pursuing me but Ohio State kept at it so I said to myself, “Why not give them a chance?”
Ozone: How interested are you in Ohio State?
McMillian: I am going to go there a check it out and enjoy myself. I am not exactly sure how interested I am in going there.
Ozone: Where else will you visit?
McMillian: As of now, I will just visit Ohio State. I really want to check them out. Maybe Alabama, they are still trying to recruit me but they are not coming at me as hard as they used too.
Ozone: Which coaches at OSU are recruiting you?
McMillian: Ryan Stamper is in charge of player development and just joined the staff. I talk to him a lot. He is from Jacksonville and we are friends. I can’t remember the other coach’s name who I talked too. I did talk to coach Meyer once and he said they would love to have me come up and play.
