Bill Kurelic May Posts May 28, 1998 3:30 PM Moving out of state, a tremendous DL that is very interested in Ohio State is Albert Haynesworth (6-6, 305, 4.9) from Hartsville, South Carolina. Haynesworth is without question one of the county's top defensive tackle prospects. He made 156 tackles this past season, including 2 sacks. Haynesworth has a 2.3 GPA and scored a 760 on the SAT the first time he took it. Haynesworth told me earlier this week that he does not have any favorites yet, and he is very open to plenty of schools, but some that he did mention include Ohio State, Florida State, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, and Clemson, all of which have offered him a scholarship. Haynesworth said that the five schools that he has very high on his list for official visits are Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, and Tennessee. Haynesworth is being recruited by Buckeyes assistant coach Tim Salem who Haynesworth told me has called him. DB Nnamdi Asomugha (6-2, 195, 4.5) from Harbor City Narbonne High School in California tells me he is interested in Ohio State. Asomugha, who has a 3.7 GPA, made 77 tackles and had 5 interceptions this past season. Asomugha told me that the schools he is most interested in are Michigan and Stanford, his two favorites, as well as UCLA, North Carolina, Cal, and Ohio State. Nnamdi's older brother Chijioke signed with Stanford last February. From the state of Florida, Antoine Poe (6-0, 190, 4.5) from Lakeland Kathleen High School is a fine athlete that is interested in the Buckeyes. Poe played inside linebacker and will also play tailback as a senior. He would prefer to play tailback in college, though he may wind up as a strong safety. Poe has a 2.6 GPA and scored a 15 on the ACT. He tells me that his favorite schools are Florida State, Central Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan, Florida, Ohio State and Michigan State. DE Gerard Clark (6-6, 265, 4.9) from Daytona Beach Mainland High School is another prospect from the state of Florida that is interested in the Buckeyes. Clark, who has a 2.5 GPA, made 73 tackles, including 5 sacks, this past season. He tells me he is interested in Florida State, Florida, Penn State, Ohio State, Kentucky, Auburn, Michigan and Michigan State. The Spartans have offered a scholarship. The Buckeyes football camps will be starting in less than a month. Some outstanding prospects from all over the country will be in Columbus for those camps, including "Blue-Chip" quarterback Chris Simms (6-5, 210, 4.7) from New Jersey. Simms, who is arguably the country's top quarterback prospect, tells me he is going to be at the Buckeyes' football camp and continues to have Ohio State as one of the top schools on his list. The other schools he is most interested in include Penn State, who I feel is the school to beat, Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida State and Miami. Another quarterback who is going to be at Ohio State's seven on seven passing camp in late June is Brian Camp (6-2, 225, 4.6) from Dublin Coffman High School in Ohio. Brian will go to camp at Florida and Michigan in June, as well as the Buckeyes seven on seven camp, and will likely go to Notre Dame's camp for one day as well. Brian has a long list of schools he is interested in, some of which include Michigan, Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Duke, Stanford, Indiana, West Virginia, and Missouri. A number of those schools have offered Brian a scholarship. He tells me that as of right now, he plans to make a decision by the end of June. RB Derrick Tatum (6-0, 190, 4.4) form Shaker Heights High School in Ohio tells me he will camp with the Buckeyes in June. It is interesting in that Tatum does not list Ohio State as one of the schools he is most interested in, yet he is planning to go to the Buckeyes' football camp. Tatum continues to list Michigan State as his leader. From the state of Michigan, linebacker Dave Pearson (6-3, 240, 4.7) from Brighton is planning to make the trip down to Columbus for camp in June. Pearson will be at Ohio State's camp June 16th, and then go to Michigan's camp June 21st. He lists the Wolverines as his favorite, but also like Ohio State, Penn State, Northwestern and Stanford. Pearson, who made 70 tackles this past season, has a 3.6 GPA, and scored a 28 on the ACT. May 21, 1998 The Buckeyes have already rounded up commitments from nine prospects in the state of Ohio and there are several others in the Buckeye state that they have extended offers to that have not yet made a decision. One of the those prospects that tells me that the Buckeyes have now offered him a scholarship is RB/DB Deryck Toles (6-1, 200, 4.5) from Warren Harding High School. Toles, who rushed for 1120 yards this past season and made 54 tackles, made an unofficial visit to Northwestern this past weekend. He has now made unofficial visits to Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Northwestern, Indiana, Pitt, and he has previously been to Ohio State as well. Toles tells me that all of those schools have told him he has a scholarship offer. Previously Toles had mentioned that he would like to make his decision by the end of May, however his family would prefer that he not rush into anything, take his time, and perhaps even take some official visits. Toles told me earlier this week that Penn State remains his leader, but the lead has shrunk. He was very impressed with Northwestern, and says Notre Dame and Northwestern closely follow Penn State at this point. Michigan also remains in the running and Toles also told me that he has not eliminated Ohio State either. He said that he is not sure when he will make his decision. It could come soon, or he could wait and make official visits. At this point, he simply is not sure enough to chose a college. With the nine commitments from Ohioans plus quarterback Craig Krenzel from Michigan, the Buckeyes can now be more selective and really concentrate on pursuing "Blue-Chip" prospects from out of state. One of those would be RB Nick Maddox (5-11, 195, 4.4) from Kannapolis Brown High School in North Carolina. Maddox is one of the country's premier running back prospects. As a sophomore he rushed for 1500 yards, and this past season rushed for 2,500 yards, averaged 9.5 yards per carry, and scored 47 touchdowns. He has run a 10.6 100 meters in track, a 21.8 200, and averages 14 points per game in basketball. He has a 4.0 GPA and scored a 900 on the SAT. Maddox told me last night that he doesn't have any favorites and is looking at schools all over the country, but some of the ones that he mentioned that he will take a look at include Notre Dame, Ohio State, North Carolina, Michigan, Florida, Syracuse, Florida State and Miami. All of them have offered Maddox a scholarship. Maddox says that Buckeye assistant coach Tim Salem has been to his school and has also called him. Maddox did say that he is planning on going through the recruiting process. An outstanding prospect from the state of Florida that the Buckeyes have offered a scholarship to and who has Ohio State in his top three is Gary Godsey (6-8, 250, 4.85) from Tampa Jesuit High School. Godsey started at center as a sophomore, then moved to tight end this past season. However, part way through his junior season he moved to quarterback, and he is being recruited as either a tight end or a quarterback. Godsey, who has a 3.3 GPA and scored a 1090 on the SAT, has an older brother George who is a quarterback at Georgia Tech. Godsey told me two nights ago that his top three choices are Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Georgia Tech. The other school that rounds out this top four is Florida. His three favorites have offered him a scholarship. Godsey is also being highly recruited in basketball and told me he considers himself to be a football player first, but might give both sports a try in college. The Buckeyes are also interested in him on the hardcourt. Godsey said that Notre Dame coach Bob Davie and called and offered a scholarship on Monday, and Godsey did say that he has always wanted to go to Notre Dame. The Irish are the school to beat, but at this point Godsey has not made a commitment. Buckeye assistant coach Jim Heacock was at this school and Godsey emphasized he is interested in the Buckeyes. Godsey is going to go to the Notre Dame football camp in mid-June and the Buckeyes are hoping they can get him past that camp without a commitment to the Irish. Moving to the West Coast, Poly High School in Long Beach, California is loaded with talent. It is the same high school that sent current Buckeye wide receiver Ken-Yon Rambo to Columbus. This year the Buckeyes are recruiting several players at Poly, including defensive back Darrell Rideaux (5-9, 160, 4.3). Rideaux has started at corner back on the Poly varsity since his freshman season. For his career he has 9 interceptions and 15 blocked kicks. Rideaux has run a 10.26 100 meters and has a 3.5 GPA. Rideaux told me last night that when Ohio State was recruiting Rambo, Ken-Yon put in a good word for him, and the Buckeyes started showing interest at that point. Rideaux has had an interest in Ohio State ever since and he told me last night that his top five consist of UCLA and USC, who have both offered a scholarship, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Stanford. The Buckeyes have offered a scholarship to wide receiver Kareem Kelly (6-1, 190, 4.4) at Poly High school. Kelly also has Ohio State as one of his top five. That top five is made up of USC, UCLA, Ohio State and Tennessee who have all offered scholarships, as well as Florida. Another player the Buckeyes are interested in at Poly High School is QB Chris Lewis (6-4, 200, 4.6). Lewis threw for 2,524 yards as a sophomore, and 2,878 yards as a junior. He connected for 32 scores this past season with a mere 4 interceptions. Lewis at this point is not listing Ohio State as one of is top choices, though he did say that the Buckeyes are writing to him. At this point, Lewis tells me some of the schools he is most interested in include Stanford, Cal, Notre Dame, UCLA, Washington, Arizona State, Colorado and BYU, and all of those schools have offered a scholarship. Raheem Orr (6-3, 240, 4.6) from Elizabeth, New Jersey is one of the country's premier linebacker prospects. Orr made 48 solo tackles, including 4 sacks this past season, caused 3 fumbles and had 5 pass deflections. He is also the best basketball player at the school and has a 2.4 GPA. Orr's older brother, Tommy Orr, was an All-American at West Virginia before going on to the New Orleans Saints. Raheem Orr told me this week that some of the schools he is interested in include Ohio State, West Virginia, Florida and Rutgers who he said have all offered him a scholarship. He also mentioned Nebraska and Syracuse as a couple of other schools that he will look at. He did say though that he is going to remain open minded. He said that he is impressed with the Buckeye program and will definitely take a good look at Ohio State. May 15, 1998 One player that is on the verge of making a decision is RB/DB Deryck Toles (6-1, 200, 4.5) from Warren Harding High School in Ohio. Toles has made unofficial visits to Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan and a few others. One other school he has been planning to visit is Northwestern. Toles is scheduled to visit the Wildcats this weekend, and then make a decision within the next week or two. The other school that Toles is also considering is Ohio State, however at this point, his top three are Penn State, Michigan and Notre Dame, and all three have offered him a scholarship. The team to beat is Penn State. Offensive lineman Aaron Hodges (6-5, 275, 5.0) from Olympia Fields Rich Central High School in Illinois is one of the Midwest's finest line prospects. He played offensive tackle as a junior, but may wind up as a guard or center in college. Hodges has a 3.2 GPA and a 22 on the ACT. He told me on Thursday night that his favorite schools are, in no particular order, Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Michigan State and Indiana. He added that all of them have offered a scholarship except Notre Dame and North Carolina, but the Tar Heels have indicated that they are on the verge of offering. Hodges mentioned that Notre Dame was at his school on Thursday (yesterday) and that Buckeye assistant coach Tim Spencer has been at his school as well. At this point he has no clear-cut leader, but the Buckeyes are definitely in the running. Another outstanding OL from Illinois that told me on Thursday night that Ohio State is one of his top choices is Tony Pape (6-6, 290, 5.15) from Hinsdale South High School in Illinois. Pape has a 2.0 GPA and a 21 on the ACT. He told me that the three main schools he is looking at at this point are Ohio State, Michigan and UCLA. He said that he is leaning toward staying in the Big Ten and also mentioned Purdue, Illinois and Kentucky. Pape told me that Michigan, Purdue, Illinois and Kentucky have all offered him a scholarship. While the Buckeyes have not offered him a scholarship, they are definitely interested. In fact, coach Spencer has called Tony Pape, and Pape indicates that he is planing to visit Ohio State sometime in the future. He said that at this point he is not close to making a decision. In fact, he said that he will likely go through at least some of the recruiting process. A super athlete in Pennsylvania that the Buckeyes have offered a scholarship to is Art Thomas (6-3, 185, 4.45) from Mechanicsburg Cumberland Valley High School. Thomas played running bask as well as some wide receiver in a wing-T offense this past season, and also played cornerback and returned kicks. He could play running back, defensive back, or wide receiver in college. Thomas has a 2.2 GPA and scored a 17 on the ACT. He told me on Thursday night that he wants to remain open minded on his college choice, but he did say that some of the schools he is interested in are Ohio State, Penn State, Syracuse, Maryland, Pitt, and Northwestern, and all of them have offered a scholarship. Thomas said that coach Pagac was at his school and also called him and asked him what position he would prefer to play in college. Thomas has indicated that running back or wide receiver would be fine. Another player from Pennsylvania that the Buckeyes are interested in is Bryan Scott (6-2, 205, 4.5) from Buckingham Central Bucks East High School. Scott plays tailback and free safety, but likely will be a tailback or wide receiver in college. He has a 3.2 GPA and a 910 on the SAT. Scott rushed for 1289 yards and scored 19 touchdowns this past season. He told me that among the schools he is considering are Penn State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida, Northwestern, Purdue, Pitt, and Syracuse, as well as some others. All of those schools except Ohio State have offered him a scholarship. The Buckeyes though are definitely interested. Scott said that he is going to wait until later to narrow things down and at this point has no clear-cut favorite. A big offensive lineman who is one of the best in the state of California is Shane Lehman (6-5, 265, 5.05) from Corona. Lehman has a 3.1 GPA. He is a fine all around athlete that moves very well. He graded out at 95% blocking efficiency as a junior, and had 28 pancake blocks. Lehman tells me that he has followed Ohio State since he was six years old and in fact names the Buckeyes as his favorite, though he is also looking at Michigan, UCLA, Colorado, USC, and Stanford. May 12, 1998 The Buckeyes have received verbal commitment number 10, this one coming from offensive lineman Matt Zahn (6-7, 340, 5.4) from St. Henry High School in Ohio. His commitment brings the Ohio State total to an unprecedented number at this early stage in the recruiting game. Zahn had told me last week that Ohio State was his leader, but at that point he was not ready to make a final decision. However, he now has picked Ohio State over Indiana who also had offered him a scholarship, as well as Notre Dame, Michigan and Penn State, the other schools that he was most interested in. Zahn had made unofficial visits in the past year to all five schools and he went to Ohio State recently not only to see a Spring practice but to the Buckeyes Spring game as well. Zahn could play either offensive tackle or offensive guard at Ohio State. He follows in the footsteps of other former St. Henry greats to chose the Buckeyes including Bobby and Tommy Hoying, as well as Jim Lachey. With the Ohio State verbal commitment total now standing at 10, lets briefly list all ten players.
Who might be next for the Buckeyes? Certainly more commitments could be on the way in the not too distant future. I spoke again with running back Jesse Kline (6-2, 210, 4.5) from Upper Arlington High School. He told me that Michigan has now also offered him a scholarship. Kline had been offered a scholarship by Ohio State long ago. He told me that at this point he is still leaving things open, but as he put it, it kind of looks like his decision is going to come down to Ohio State, Michigan or Notre Dame. Kline, who went to Spring games at both Ohio State and Michigan, said he is not quite sure enough to make a decision right now, but he would like to decide before the end of the summer, and said that most likely he would decide by early summer. The Buckeyes have also offered running back Richard Hall a scholarship and Hall continues to highly consider Ohio State, but at this point has not made a decision. However, like so many other Ohioans, Hall is another one that will likely make a decision before the beginning of his senior season. Offensive lineman Adrian Clarke (6-5, 305, 5.2) from Shaker Heights High School in Ohio is another one that the Buckeyes are hoping to get a commitment from. Clarke is not ready to make a decision yet, but continues to have Ohio State as one of his top choices. He is also highly considering Michigan as well as Michigan State, and the Spartans have offered him a scholarship. Offensive lineman Singleton Hicks (6-7, 370, 5.4) from Columbus Beechcroft High School in Ohio tells me he wants to look at his options more, but is highly considering Ohio State as well. Hicks tells me his current top four are Ohio State, Indiana, Penn State and Pitt, and he said both the Buckeyes and the Hoosiers have told him that a scholarship will be available. Hicks did say that right now he is leaning to Indiana and he might go to Penn State's football camp this summer. While the Buckeyes have not offered linebacker James Smith (6-3, 245, 4.8) a scholarship, he is a fast-rising prospect that likes Ohio State. Smith, who is from Hamilton Edgewood High School in Ohio, started on the defensive line as a sophomore before moving to inside linebacker this past season. Smith made 98 tackles. He has a 3.4 GPA and scored a 27 on the ACT. Smith went to Spring practice sessions at Ohio State and Illinois, and also made an unofficial visit to Michigan State. He tells me that Michigan State and Illinois have offered him a scholarship and he is interested in those two schools as well as Ohio State, Bowling Green and Miami of Ohio. Moving out of state, arguably the top offensive lineman in the state of Arizona, Nick Johnson (6-9, 320, 5.1) from Mingus Union High School, tells me that he is interested in Ohio State and might go to the Buckeyes football camp this summer. Johnson started at defensive tackle as a sophomore before moving to offensive tackle this past season. He could play either spot in college but seems better suited to play on the offensive side of the ball. Johnson has a 3.2 GPA and scored a 22 on the ACT. He helped lead his team to a 13-0-1 record this past season. Johnson told me the schools he is most interested in are Arizona State, Ohio State, Nebraska, UCLA, Arizona, Washington, Notre Dame and Michigan, and he does have some scholarship offers. Johnson also has Midwest ties as he was born and raised in Minnesota and lived there until moving to Arizona two years ago. Johnson told me that he is most familiar with Arizona State at this point but would not say that the Sun Devils are necessarily his favorite. Johnson also mentioned that he will likely go to football camp this summer at Arizona State and Nebraska, and might go to Ohio State and Michigan's camps as well. Wide receiver LaRoy Bias (6-0, 160, 4.45) from Aurora Smokey Hill High School in Colorado will be one of the top prospects in that state this coming season. Bias played wide receiver, running back, and returned punts and kickoffs this past season. He is a super athlete who has run a 10.6 100 meters in track. Bias has a 2.5 GPA and a 17 on the ACT. He has verbally committed to Colorado but told me he will take some other official visits beside his one with the Buffaloes. In fact Bias said that one of three schools he would be most interested in visiting would be Ohio State. Bias said that in addition to Ohio State, he would be very interested in visiting Michigan as well, and said that even though he has committed to Colorado, the decision at this point is not a final one. May 7, 1998 The Buckeye coaching staff continues to be out on the road this month checking out prospects in the mid-west and across the country. In fact, a super running back from the state of Michigan told me that Buckeye assistant coach Chuck Stobart would be at his school today. Brent Cummings (5-11, 185, 4.4) from Belding, Michigan will one of the Midwest's premier running back prospects this season. As a freshman on the varsity he rushed for 500 yards , as a sophomore he added another 1300, and this past season Cummings rushed for 2170 yards and 39 touchdowns. He averaged over 10 yards per carry as he led his team to a 13-0 record and the state championship. Cummings is a stand-out student as well with a 3.7 GPA and a 21 on the ACT. He has run a 10.6 100 meters in track and averages 21 PPG in basketball. Cummings told me on Wednesday night that assistant coaches from Notre Dame and Ohio State were scheduled to be at his school today, and coach Lloyd Carr from Michigan and coach Nick Saban from Michigan State have already been to his school. Cummings said that his top four choices at this point are Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Notre Dame, and he added that Notre Dame is the only one of the four who is yet to offer him a scholarship. He said that at this point, Michigan would be his favorite and he will likely go to their football camp this summer. Cummings added that he wants to make a decision, if possible, before the start of his senior season. Linebacker Darrell Campbell (6-4, 225, 4.5) from South Holland Thornwood High School in Illinois will be one of the top prospects in that state this coming season. Campbell told me the other night that coach Tim Spencer recently was at his school, and added that his favorite schools right now in no particular order would be Northwestern, Stanford, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Purdue. Campbell made 71 tackles this past season and has a 3.9 GPA. To date the Buckeyes have not offered him a scholarship. One player the Buckeyes have offered a scholarship to is "Blue-Chip" tight end Mike Siedman (6-5, 230, 4.7) from Westlake Village Westlake High School in California. Siedman, who has a 3.8 GPA, is arguably the country's top tight end prospect. He caught 50 passes this past season and averaged 15 yards per catch. The good news for the Buckeyes is that Siedman indicates that he plans on making an official visit to Ohio State. Siedman has been offered scholarships by Ohio State, UCLA, Penn State, and Washington, among others. At his point, because of the depth at tight end at UCLA it looks like the Bruins may not have much of a shot at Siedman. In fact Sideman may be leaning toward going out-of-state, though USC is still in the picture. Some other schools that are also in the picture are Colorado, Michigan and Stanford. Staying in the state of California, another super prospect the Buckeyes have now offered a scholarship to is WR Kareem Kelly (6-1, 190, 4.4) from Long Beach Poly High School. Kelly is from the same high school as current Buckeye receiver Ken-Yon Rambo. Kareem Kelly caught 35 passes and scored 7 touchdowns this past season. He has run a 10.49 100 meters in track. Kareem Kelly has been offered a scholarship by Ohio State, USC, UCLA and Tennessee. He told me those are four of his top five choices, the other being Florida. Also from the state of California, "Blue-Chip" lineman Bernard Riley (6-3, 305, 5.0) from Los Alamitos High School is a tremendous defensive tackle prospect who has an interest in the Buckeyes. Riley, who has a 3.1 GPA, made 91 tackles include 5 sacks this past season despite being constantly double teamed. Riley is being favorably compared to former USC standout Darrell Russell. Riley has been offered a scholarship by UCLA, USC, Texas and Washington, and Ohio State, Notre Dame and Michigan will likely offer very soon as well. Some other schools in the picture include Penn State, Nebraska, Oregon, Colorado and Washington State. Riley told me that UCLA is his current leader. May 1, 1998 Assistant coach Jim Heacock is scheduled to be at Lebanon High School today. Of course, "Blue-Chip" running back Kelton Lindsay (6-1, 190, 4.4) from Lebanon has already committed to Ohio State. However, coach Heacock wants to make sure that Lindsay's coach, the councilors, and Kelton himself know exactly where he needs to be to qualify academically. Lindsay has a 2.5 GPA and an 18 on the ACT so he should have no problem qualifying, but the Buckeyes will not take any chances and want to be absolutely sure that Lindsay makes it. Lindsay went to the Ohio State Spring game last Saturday and interestingly told me that was the first time he had ever met coach John Cooper in person, despite his previous commitment to Ohio State. Inside linebacker Pat O'Neill (6-4, 215, 4.7) from Cuyahoga Walsh Jesuit High School is one that the Buckeyes extended a scholarship offer to awhile back. I did check with O'Neill once again as he had previously told me he was strongly leaning to Ohio State and was considering committing to the Buckeyes in the not to distant future. When I checked with O'Neill again, he told me that he now thinks that he is going to wait at least awhile longer before making any kind of final decision. O'Neill told me he is not 100% sure yet of his college choice, so he wants to wait at least awhile longer. At this point O'Neill says that Ohio State is still on top of his list, though he is also interested in Michigan, Pitt, Indiana, Florida State and Bowling Green. Offensive lineman Singleton Hicks is now up to close to 370 pounds to go along with his 6-7 frame. Hicks, who runs a 5.4 40, is from Columbus Beechcroft High School and is one of the top offensive line prospects in the state of Ohio. When I spoke with Hicks this week, he told me that his current favorite schools are Indiana, Ohio State, Pitt and Penn State. Hicks told me that when he made an unofficial visit to Ohio State, the Buckeyes indicated that they should have a scholarship available for him. Indiana has offered Hicks a scholarship. He said that right now, Indiana would probably be his favorite, but he is not ready to make a decision. Hicks said, "I want to look at all my options right now." He might go to Penn State's football camp this summer. Hicks' GPA is also on the rise and is now above the 3.0 mark. He is a mammoth and very strong young man but will have to watch his weight a bit. Moving out-of-state, a very familiar name that has Ohio State as one of his top choices is Jarrett Payton. Jarrett is the son of former NFL great Walter Payton. Jarrett was an all-state soccer selection as a sophomore, and went out for football for the first time as a junior. He played quarterback and passed for 500 yards and rushed for 300. Payton is 6-2, 190, 4.4 from Arlington Heights St. Viator, will be one of the top prospects in Illinois this season. Payton has a 3.0 GPA, and despite his proficiency in soccer, says he will play football in college. Payton tells me that his top choices, in no particular order, are Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana and Northwestern. Payton does have some scholarship offers, though the Buckeyes have not yet extended an offer. Another talented prospect from the state of Illinois that has Ohio State as one of his top choices is running back Brian Corcoran (6-0, 215, 4.45) from Orland Park Sandburg High School. Corcoran rushed for 1,522 yards this past season, and averaged 9.2 per carry as he scored 19 touchdowns. He is an explosive runner who was impressive at the Michigan football camp last summer. Corcoran was also second in the state in wrestling in his weight class. The one question mark will be academics, as Corcoran's GPA is close to the 2.0 mark, but if he qualifies, he is going to get plenty of offers. Corcoran told me this weekend that his favorite schools, in no particular order, are Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa and Purdue. As I mentioned, the month of May is a very important evaluation period for Ohio State, and certainly the Buckeyes could add to their eight commitments as they tour high schools not only in Ohio but throughout the country. In addition to the month of May, the month of June is going to be another important recruiting period for Ohio State as the Buckeye football camps will be going on during that month. Ohio State will be holding football camp sessions June 16-19, June 20-23, and June 24-26. Those sessions will be another important evaluation time for the Ohio State staff, and traditionally, the Buckeyes have landed commitments at their football camps, so certainly May and June will be two very important months in which the Buckeyes could add to their already impressive total of verbal commitments. |
