Men's Basketball: There is bad news for the men's basketball program.

According to an OSU Department of Athletics spokesman the Ohio State men's basketball program will be penalized two scholarships for one season, 2009-2010, as a result of the latest APR (Academic Progress Report) issued by the NCAA.

OSU's problem is due at least in part to to the the decision of former OSU player Kosta Koufos to opt for the NBA draft and leave Ohio State after having begun a quarter. His departure, and therefore lack of progress toward a degree, had a large impact on OSU's APR.

The NCAA allows a maximum of 13 players to be on a men's basketball scholarship at an institution. The Buckeyes currently have 11 and do not have any players coming in next year. That means that no current roster players will lose a scholarship but that OSU cannot bolster its roster in any way with a scholarship player.
